What the User Number is
The User Number identifies you in the Portuguese National Health Service. With it you get access to an assigned family doctor, appointments at the health centre, hospital ER, vaccination and medicines subsidised by the State.
Enrolment is mandatory for regular residents in Portugal. Even EU citizens need a User Number to access the SNS without using the European Health Insurance Card.
